How do you tell what year a Mariner outboard is? ›

Or check the plate, located between the thumb screws above the steering tube. The top number on the plate is the serial number, and the number directly beneath it is the four-digit year of manufacture.

Every Mercury outboard has a serial number label located on the transom bracket area of the engine. The latest serial number labels display a 2-digit number in a box at the lower right portion of the label. These digits coincide with the last two digits of the year in which the outboard was manufactured.

Model Number and Serial Number

These numbers are located on the transom bracket of the motor.

For recordkeeping purposes only, a mariner's official MMC identification number is the individual's social security number.

The date code for the engine is built into the serial number after the first two numbers. As an example, a 2013 engine would read something like this, 1013426. The “13" designates it as a 2013 engine.

In 1999, the decision was reached to end Mariner sales in the U.S. but to continue distribution internationally in markets where it remains popular.

To Determine Manufacture Date Based on Serial Number: The 1st three numbers of your serial number will always provide your manufacture date. The 1st number is the YEAR of manufacture; the 2nd & 3rd numbers indicate the MONTH of manufacture.

Make, Model and Year

Who made the boat is often known but the model/type may be a little harder to find especially for a second hand or older boat. The type/model and year the boat was built can be found imprinted on the hull of the boat in the Hull Identification Number or HIN code.

Serial Numbers. A serial number (SN) is a number assigned to each individual product in order to distinguish that product from all others. The serial number is sometimes used only for warranty control and sometimes used for both warranty control and for version control.

2011 changes

For the 2011 model year, the Mariner featured HD Radio as a standard, but continued with the same features as the 2010 models. This version of the Mariner was its last, as Ford discontinued the Mercury brand due to declining sales. Ford ended production of the Mariner in October 2010.

As noted, the vehicle's year is identified by a letter or number in the 10th position from the left in the VIN. As shown above, the 10th character of the VIN indicates its model year.

The VIN number tells you when and where the car was built. It tells you the manufacturer, year, make and model, and the trim level including unique features and specifications.

Serial Number

A unique combination of eleven numbers and letters appears twice on the front of the note. Each note has a unique serial number. The first letter of the serial number corresponds to the series year. A “star” suffix is used to identify notes that serve as replacements during the production process.
